Peter McGillivray | Baritone
Born in Saskatchewan and raised in Ontario, baritone Peter McGillivray leapt to international attention in 2005 by winning top prizes both at the Montreal International Musical Competition and at the Queen Sonja Competition in Oslo, Norway. He first attracted the national interest of Canadians both as the winner of the 2003 CBC Young Performers Competition and as member of the Ensemble Studio of the Canadian Opera Company. This past season he was seen on opera stages from coast to coast including turns as Sharpless in Opéra de Québec’s Madama Butterfly, Vicar Gedge in Vancouver Opera’s Albert Herring, Dr. Falke in Edmonton Opera’s Die Fledermaus, Vaughan Williams’ A Sea Symphony with Saskatoon Symphony, Schaunard in Manitoba Opera’s La Bohème and the Canadian première of Kevin Puts’s Pulitzer Prize-winning Silent Night with Calgary Opera. He looks forward to the upcoming 2015-16 season with performances with Opera Lyra (The Marriage of Figaro & The Barber of Seville), Saskatoon Opera (Madama Butterfly), Manitoba Opera (Marriage of Figaro) Pacific Opera Victoria (The Barber of Seville) and Dallas.
